Ionic Coast

Strolling along the jonic coast of Salento you can admire some of the most beautiful beaches of Salento and probably Italy.

From the north salento, on the border between the province of Taranto to Lecce, and going to Porto Cesareo there are long stretches of sand with a crystal-clear sea, occasionally interrupted by low cliffs.

Further south, after the beach of Sant’Isidoro the coast is rocky  and rises up to the Park of Porto Selvaggio, then back down the cliff and remains low in the areas of Santa Caterina and Santa Maria al Bagno, until you come around Gallipoli, the most important town on this stretch of coastline.

In the South of Gallipoli we have the “Baia verde – Green Bay”, another great beach enclosed between Gallipoli and the park of Punta Pizzo.

From here on, going south, you encounter many other small resorts that overlook an area of low cliffs, until you reach Torre San Giovanni, in Ugento, starting from almost 15 km. Beach, long and wild.

When you get closer to Santa Maria di Leuca the coast again tends to become a rock and rise, disappearing beaches and check a cliff that offers a breathtaking view on the Ionian, and the magnificent caves of Santa Maria di Leuca.
